The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.

We are a school that strives for excellence. We deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, which is dynamic and challenging. We continually review the curriculum on offer to ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve academic and examination success. In its design, the curriculum at all key stages, endeavors to support student learning by addressing the following aspects:
- Aptitude;
- Breadth and balance;
- Challenge for the complete student ability range;
- Development of independent learning;
- Equal opportunities for all to succeed; and
- Flexibility
In addition to learning within the structured timetable of 25 hours a week, Bournemouth School also offers students a rich array of learning activities outside the classroom.
Bournemouth School is one of very few maintained schools in the United Kingdom that has a Combined Cadet Force. We have Army, Navy and RAF sections and boys who choose to join have wonderful opportunities to travel, sail, fly and take part in outdoor activities. In addition the school has a scout troop, including a RN Sea-Scout section, which affords boys further opportunities to learn skills related to the outdoor life. Boys from both the CCF and Scouts compete in events such as the annual Ten Tors expedition, and have the opportunity to participate in overseas expeditions and regional, national and international events. We also recently became a Duke of Edinburgh Operating Authority.
The participation of students in physical education is exemplary, with large numbers of students participating in sporting activities beyond the curriculum. Representative school sport is very strong at all levels of the School with all of the teams regularly competing for Town and County championships. A broad range of extra-curricular activities for those students who do not wish to compete in the main team events are offered, including options such as: surfing, climbing, table tennis, dance, martial arts, basketball and badminton.
