Darwin

 House Colour: Yellow

Charles Robert Darwin (1809-82), was a British scientist, who laid the foundation of modern evolutionary theory with his concept of the development of all forms of life through the slow-working process of natural selection. His work was a major influence on the life and earth sciences and on modern thought in general.

Head of House: Mr M Pritchard

As Head of Darwin House for a number of years, I have been fortunate to have worked with hundreds of well -motivated, hardworking, pleasant young students, who have been well looked after by an excellent set of form tutors. I feel that I am very lucky to be able to work alongside these teams of people with the support of the parents. The House competition always inspires healthy competition as well as a continuing interest through the year. I have been fortunate to have worked alongside excellent prefect teams, who are always given the opportunity to ensure that the School is securely supervised through the school day as well as at the many Open evenings. Students are given many chances to seize initiative, and maybe this is best seen during our Charity weeks. Our main event is the Junior Disco that we run jointly with Parks House at BSG. Through the previous week, raffles, cake sales, games, fancy dress events have been just some of the means of raising money. In Darwin House, we change the charity we are supporting on an annual basis following discussions with the students, and the Charity co-ordinator. Recent charities include the Steve Bernard Foundation, Victoria School, a Ugandan school, muscular dystrophy and Wessex autism.

House Captain: Connor Sharp

Having been a member of Bournemouth School since the age of 11, I have seen first-hand the hard-work and commitment that previous senior and school prefects have exhibited. To be made Darwin House Captain is a huge honour and I am determined to be a source of guidance and assistance, similar to our predecessors. After only a few months in the role I have been faced with many challenges with varying degrees of difficulty, and I look to the forthcoming academic year with positivity and excitement for what is to come. I am particularly optimistic when it comes to the House Championship as the dedication and motivation within the Darwin ranks is astounding. It is, therefore, my hope and expectation that the fortunes of the house will soon be re-kindled.

During my last year as a ‘Bournemouthian’ I shall be nothing short of passionate and committed to the duties that directly involve Darwin and the wider community of the school. I am part of a fantastic team which I know will fulfil its duties of leadership and which is incredibly devoted to the progress and development of life for students across all year groups and it is a privilege to be part of it. My main goal is to ensure that all members of Darwin, and not solely the prefects, can play an active role in the school. I hope my work with Mr. Pritchard (Head of House) will enable us to achieve this.
