Elgar

 House Colour: Light Blue

Sir Edward William Elgar (1857-1934) was an English composer, many of whose works have entered the British and international classical concert repertoire. Among his best-known compositions are orchestral works including the Enigma Variations, the Pomp and Circumstance Marches, concertos for violin and cello, and two symphonies. He also composed choral works, including The Dream of Gerontius, chamber music and songs.

Head of House: Mr R Cook

As Housemaster of Elgar House, I have the privilege of leading a team of 8 hard working and dedicated Tutors.  They have a wealth of experience and enthusiasm with the primary aim of enabling the 220 or so young men and women in our charge to feel valued as individuals, to flourish, and to grow into confident, successful and happy adults.

The Tutors are ably assisted by a team of prefects who organise and arrange House activities including assemblies, fund raising events and competitions as well as supporting the younger members of the House in the day to day life of the school. Prefects and the older members of the House play an important role in helping new students settle into the school as well as guide, advise and inspire other members of the Elgar House community.

The House system itself enables students to showcase their skills and abilities and I am constantly impressed by the plethora of talents that our students possess and the willingness they have to share these and support one another. It is in my opinion a real strength of the School and I am proud to be a part of it.

House Captain: Simon Kenchington

I’ve really enjoyed my time as Elgar house captain this year; it’s been a successful year for the school and it’s been great to have been a part of it. Elgar house has had a successful year too with members of the house achieving great things, including both sport and music. It’s been my privilege to have worked with the Elgar prefects that I have, they’ve made my job so much easier and helped the house run smoothly. Our house charity this year was a major success and that was thanks to our house charity representative Marcus Willcock who organised the week. We as a house raised money for the charity YUYO which is helping the Yurie Yoshimi School in Uganda. The charity week involved a raffle, cake sale, charity concert, mufti day and a Bournemouth School’s got talent event. The entire house helped out in some way and the week was a major success for Elgar house as a whole. There’s also been a change of leadership in the house too, with Mrs. Looker stepping down and Mr Cook picking up the reins just after Christmas. Mrs. Looker did an excellent job of running the house and helping me as house captain. I wish Mr. Cook the best of luck for the future; he will definitely do a good job. Being house captain has been a lot of work this year but I would happily stay another year to do it again, it’s been an honour to have been a house captain and I would like to thank the school for the privilege.
