Exam Certificates

Exam certificates are now available for collection. Certificates may be collected between 8.30 am and 4 pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30 am and 4 pm on Friday. This week the school will close at 12.30 on Friday. Certificates will not be available for collection during the school holidays.

If your son is unable to collect his own certificates then the nominated person must have a letter of authorisation from the student and photographic ID to collect the certificates on his behalf.

School buses will run at normal times in the morning and afternoon.

GCSE Results - 10:00 am Thursday 23rd August

Results will be available for collection from 10.00 am. We are unable to give out results via e-mail or telephone. If you are unable to collect your results, please provide an A5 self-addressed stamped envelope and results will be posted to you on results day. Alternatively, you can nominate someone to collect results; they must bring identification and a letter authorising them to collect results on your behalf.

Certificates will arrive in school by 31 October 2012. They may be collected from mid-November onwards.

Staff will be available on result days to advise any students who have concerns arising from their results.

Term Ends 19th July 2012

The end of the school term and the academic year ends at 12:30 on Thursday, 19th July 2012.

There are no buses running except for the special arrangement made with parents for the BS1/BS2/BS3.

Term starts on Wednesday, 5th September 2012 at 08:20 for all students.

Rags to Riches - final campaign

The final collection date for the last campaign of Rags To Riches has been set for Wednesday 30^th May.

Any donations of Old Clothes, Bedding, Towels, Shoes, Curtains and any other Textiles will be gratefully received by Mr Graham In the School reception, please put any donations into plastic bags.

The Textiles are weighed and the school receives a donation for each Kilo received which we donate to Homeless Charities and we are entered into a competition with other Schools and may win a prize.

The textiles can be in any condition as they are donated to Charity when they are in a good condition or recycled if they are not.

Rags to Riches Campaign - donations needed by 23 March

Many of you may have seen in the local media that 14 schools in Bournemouth have entered a recycling competition; the school that collects the most between September 2011 and May 2012 wins. We had a very good first collection at Christmas and raised £130 for CRISIS and SHELTER.

The second collection will take place on 23 March. If you have old clothes, shoes, towels, bed linen, coats and curtains that you no longer need please bring these items into school.

If each boy is bale to bring in just a single bag of recycling we should be able to shoot up the table and maybe win the big prize of £1,000.

School Carol Service

To celebrate Christmas as a school community, we would like to invite parents and students to our annual school Carol service which will be held on Thursday 15^th December at 7.00pm in St Francis of Assisi church, next to the school and at the end of East Way. There will be readings and music, and carols to join in, followed by refreshments and more music in the school.

Careers Convention 2011

Bournemouth School will be hosting this year’s Careers Convention on Thursday 20 October from 6:30 - 9pm. The Careers Convention is aimed at students in years 9, 10, 11 and 12 and year 13 students are also welcome to attend.

The Careers Convention gives students the opportunity to meet with representatives from a range of national and local employers, organisations and institutions. Students will be able to develop their career ideas and speak with individuals to find out what a job is really like.

Some of the representatives will be giving presentations and talks during the course of the evening. The times and length of these talks will vary and be publicised in school on the evening of the Careers Convention.

There will be qualified careers advisors available as well as a suite of computers running careers information software such as Kudos and Careerscape.

Exam Results

Students are reminded that Exam Results will be available as follows:

AS/A Level results at 10.00 on Thursday 18th August.

GCSE results at 10.00 on Thursday 25th August.

If a student is not able personally to collect their results they must either have left signed, written authority at Exams Office for someone else to collect them for them, or have left a stamped, addressed envelope for the results to be posted to them.

Senior members of staff will be on hand from 10.00 to advise students on any issues arising from their results, and to enjoy celebrating their success with the students!

UPDATE: Wilts & Dorset take over Shamrock bus routes

Information taken from the Shamrock Buses website advises that Wilts & Dorset have taken over the 36, 55, 88 & 89 bus routes. Wilts & Dorset will be operating these services to their full timetables as of 7th July 2011. Wilts & Dorset and RATP Yellow Buses will also be accepting certain passes. Further details are available on the Shamrock Buses and Wilts & Dorset websites.

Shamrock Buses - Routes - 36, 55, 88, 89

We were notified today that Shamrock Buses have ceased trading.

They have arranged to transport the boys home this evening but there will be no buses running from tomorrow morning.

As this is a commercial bus service, unfortunately you will need to make your own transport arrangements for your son.

We will inform you if we receive any further information regarding these routes.

UCAS Parent Guides

After last night's Information evening for students and parents in the Sixth Form, a number of copies of the UCAS (University and Colleges Entrance advice) Parent Guides still remain.

These are available to be collected, free of charge, from Reception whilst stocks last. They are only applicable to parents of students currently in the Sixth Form.

A copy of the presentation from last night will be sent out on Schoolcomms early next week to parents of Sixth Form students.
