Information for Universities for entry in 2019

At Bournemouth School we believe every student should achieve their potential both academically, and in their personal development.

In light of the recent and on-going government A Level reform we have therefore taken the decision to normally ask our students to complete 4 A Level subjects.  In doing so it is our belief that this will push students on to a higher level of academic rigour that will provide the tools needed to succeed highly at university.  In cases where students are not taking four A Levels the majority will leave us with 3.5 A Level qualifications.  This will be phased out as and when new linear specifications become the standard offeringWhen supporting university applications, Bournemouth School take into account a wide range of assessment data when making predicted grades, including continuous classroom assessment, internal examinations at the end of Year 12 and outcomes of modular AS exams (where still applicable).  Entry to Bournemouth School’s sixth form is based on student’s best eight GCSE results, and we serve a wide catchment area.  There are over 340 students in our sixth form, with class sizes sometimes over 25.  The students come from a variety of backgrounds, with around 10% of sixth form students in receipt of a bursary to support their continuing education.  Last year over 80% of students received offers from higher education institutions and we endeavour to provide all Higher Learning institutions of a straightforward and clear picture of our students’ suitability for the course they are applying to.
