Following the publication last week of some exceptional A-level results, with 16% of all entries being graded A*, the students and staff at Bournemouth School are today celebrating the school’s best ever results at GCSE.
Most students completed 11 GCSEs, with two thirds of entries being graded 9 to 7; pleasingly 45% of all entries were graded 9-8. Three-quarters of the cohort achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grades 7-9; 38% achieved 10 or more GCSEs at grades 7-9. Students’ breadth of study was further demonstrated by 81% of the year group achieving a strong pass in the EBacc (increasing from 65% last year; the EBacc average points score increased from 6.9 to 7.2). The attainment 8 average was 74.5 (increasing from 72.7 last year). Two students achieved a “clean sweep” – each was awarded 11 grade 9s!
Headmaster, Dr Dorian Lewis commented, “We are delighted that the hard work of our students and staff has been so well rewarded. Over the last 2 – 3 years we have been focusing upon improving the quality of teaching and learning, reviewing every aspect of our provision and adopting strategies that have been successfully implemented in the most successful schools across the country. My colleagues have worked diligently to effect improvement, students have adapted well to the changes that have been implemented, and we have been well supported by the governing board and the parent body. I am so pleased by the outcomes published today and, as the improvement journey continues, I look forward to even more success in the future.”
