Year 12 Competitive Edge

This afternoon, our Year 12 students gained invaluable insights into competitive university applications thanks to George Dorrity, Student Recruitment Officer at Bath University.

George’s talk covered everything from crafting compelling UCAS personal statements to structuring paragraphs effectively and engaging in wider reading. Students also learned how to research courses abroad, complete work placements while studying, and explore scholarships and bursaries.

The session was closely linked to our school’s VESPA model, encouraging students to develop an ambitious Vision for their futures, put in the Effort to achieve their goals, use effective Systems to stay organised, engage in deliberate Practice, and maintain the right Attitude throughout the competitive application process.

Many students stayed behind after the talk to ask questions, reflecting the curiosity and engagement sparked by the session. The event left students motivated and buzzing with positivity, equipped with practical strategies to gain a competitive edge in their university applications.
