Celebrate 125 Years With Us

Bournemouth School will be celebrating 125 years of academic excellence later this month.

The school opened at 9.00am on Tuesday, 22 January 1901 at Portchester Road and moved to its current East Way site in 1939 at the outbreak of the Second World War. It continues to serve the local community and, in its last OFSTED inspection, was graded as outstanding in all areas. The school has a Combined Cadet Force and Royal Navy-affiliated Sea Scout troop complementing its academic, sporting and cultural provision.

The school has a number of former students who have enjoyed success in their various walks of life. These include musicians Roderick Kennedy, Gareth Malone and Alex James, actors Charles Gray and Christian Bale, and journalists Sir David English, Mike Wooldridge and Mark Austin.

On Saturday, 24 January, the school will be opening its doors to welcome former students, as well as friends of the school and the local community in celebration of its anniversary. The event will run from 12.00 noon until 4.30pm, and will comprise a display of its heritage, tours of the current facilities, musical interludes, and an opportunity to partake of some light refreshments. There is no need to book to attend this event.

By clicking on the 125th anniversary icon on the schoolโ€™s website home page, users are able to access a wealth of archive material and personal recollections of former students and staff. The school welcomes further contributions to this archive through the website.
