From the Headmaster

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last month, Bournemouth School celebrated its 125th anniversary, a milestone that offered a valuable opportunity to reflect on the School’s proud history and achievements. It has been a great privilege to serve as the School’s eighth Headteacher and to play a part in its continued success. Bournemouth School remains in a strong position: student numbers are healthy, last year’s GCSE and A level results were excellent, and the School’s financial outlook is secure.

Having joined the School in 2009 and led it through two Ofsted inspections, I believe the time has come to pass on the responsibility of leadership. I have therefore written to the Chair of Trustees to give formal notice of my resignation as Headteacher, with effect from 31 December 2026.

I have given the Board of Trustees a longer period of notice than contractually required to ensure that the process of appointing my successor is careful and thorough, while keeping any period of uncertainty to a minimum. Planning for the transition is already underway. The position will be advertised before half term, with interviews expected to take place in the final week of term before Easter.

I am confident that the successful applicant will quickly recognise how fortunate they are to join such a talented and dedicated staff team, supported by a committed Board of Trustees and working with our wonderful students. I have been privileged to work with outstanding colleagues throughout my time here, and the current senior leadership team is exceptional in its commitment to students and the wider school community.

I would like to thank you, as parents and carers, for your support and partnership during my tenure. It has been an honour to serve Bournemouth School. Please be assured that I will continue to work tirelessly over the coming months to ensure a seamless transition to the School’s ninth Headteacher.

Kind regards

Dr Dorian Lewis
