Andrew's biography:

On leaving school I played professional football for AFCB and after a couple of seasons I left and attended St Luke’s College in Exeter and studied to become a PE Teacher. On graduating I started a teaching career at Oakdale Middle School in Poole where I was a year leader and Head of PE for 35 years before leaving to join the PE department at Bournemouth School. During my teaching career I was able to continue playing football and cricket to a high standard playing for Poole Town, Salisbury and Dorchester at football and Hampshire second eleven and Dorset minor counties at cricket. I am happily married to my wife Sarah we have one daughter who is also a PE Teacher and my son in law is also a PE Teacher.

What was best about Andrew's time at Bournemouth School?

My career at Bournemouth School was very memorable in many ways especially for the amount of sport I was able to participate in. We had a particularly strong sporting year group. Many of us represented Hampshire Schools in a variety of sports and in various age groups. Bournemouth was in Hampshire in those days. Debating society with the girls school!

Who does Andrew remember most fondly?

Mr Jasper Dodds
Mr Harry Hawkins
All of the PE staff
I am still in touch with a number of my friends who played in the same school teams as me and we still have reunions reminiscing about school times together.

What would Andrew change about their time at Bournemouth School?

Caning was barbaric and very painful!

What is Andrew's favourite anecdote/most vivid memory?

Learning to swim at Stokewood Road swimming baths.
Playing cricket for the Old Bournemouthians with members of the PE Staff and sharing a beer with them after the game when we were still only 14 years of age !

Andrew's final thoughts

Thank you Bournemouth School for all the wonderful memories and amazing friendships. You have a special place in my heart.
