Orchestra Day Brings Schools Together

On Monday, 5 October, our hall was transformed into a huge rehearsal space as around 120 young musicians from Bournemouth School and Bournemouth School for Girls came together for a special orchestral training day.

Led by conductor Enyi Okpara, the day gave students from across the two schools the opportunity to experience playing as part of a large orchestra. Musicians of all levels of experience took part, working together throughout the day to develop their ensemble skills, learn new repertoire and experience the excitement of making music on such a large scale.

Under Enyiโ€™s direction, the orchestra worked on a range of pieces, with students learning how the different sections and instruments fit together to create the finished performance. As well as developing their own playing, the day provided a valuable opportunity for students to listen to one another, respond to a conductor and work collaboratively with musicians they might not normally have the chance to play alongside.

The day culminated in a performance for Year 7 students, who were invited into the hall during the afternoon to hear two of the pieces the orchestra had been working on. It was a wonderful opportunity for the musicians to put their work into practice in front of an audience and for Year 7 to experience the impressive sound of a large live orchestra at close quarters.

Events such as this provide an invaluable opportunity for young musicians to build confidence, develop their skills and enjoy the shared experience of performing as part of an ensemble.

Our thanks go to Enyi Okpara for leading such an inspiring and enjoyable day, to everyone involved in organising and supporting the event, and particularly to SoundStorm for funding the day and making this fantastic opportunity possible for our students.
