What was best about Joe's time at Bournemouth School?

It’s nearly impossible to pick out a single thing, but bringing out my passion for languages and politics is something that has particularly shaped my life.

Who does Joe remember most fondly?

I was lucky enough to have brilliant teaching from the modern languages staff in my time at the school. I was especially grateful for Mr Elmer’s belief in me, and challenging me to apply for Oxford (not successful, but a great experience all the same).

What would Joe change about their time at Bournemouth School?

I wish we’d won the penalty shootout against Charterhouse School in the National Schools Cup in 2004. We had a brilliant side, and I think we could have gone deeper into the tournament (I think this was the last 64, we’d already won three games). It was a home game and the whole school was there – a special occasion!

What is Joe's favourite anecdote/most vivid memory?

Several. I especially enjoyed the staff vs students football matches at Christmas. I remember that there was a teacher talent contest (must have been for charity, no other explanation), and seeing Mr Lovegrove sing ‘Sugar, Sugar’ by The Archies during assembly. The whole thing was very unexpected! I was truly lucky to go to NZ on a school sports tour.
