Andrew's biography:

After Bournemouth School, I went on to to study Geography at Oxford, followed by an MPhil in Real Estate Finance at Cambridge University. I joined the Officer Training Corps at both, and attended Sandhurst to gain a TA Commission.

After university, I have followed a career in European real estate investment in London, including 15 years as a fund manager at Aviva Investors. I now work for LaSalle in central London, again as a fund manager.

I live in Sevenoaks with my wife, Joanna, and our two children, Annabelle (Yr 7) and Henry (Yr 5), and I have enjoyed recently becoming involved with my daughter’s grammar school, which has brought back many happy memories from BS – reassuringly the Cambridge Latin course has changed very little, and Caecilius remains front and centre!

What was best about Andrew's time at Bournemouth School?

The CCF – I fondly remember the character-forming camps (Arran, Okehampton, Clyde Fleet Tender, Army Camp, etc) alongside Ten Tors (twice) and much time spent on Dartmoor! Shooting in the school range of a lunchtime, or heading to RM Poole for 9mm pistol shooting were also great distractions.

Who does Andrew remember most fondly?

BJ Sanders – a wonderful man who gave much of his free time to the CCF – sadly missed.
Mr Graham-Brown – I was lucky to be in his form in Year 7 – a great start to school life.
Miss Bentley – one of life’s characters.
Mr Webb / Mr Hughes – both gave me a love of Geography.

What is Andrew's favourite anecdote/most vivid memory?

There are many to mention – from the (very) long lunch queues, to Mr Petrie’s “Good morning, gentlemen” in school assemblies, some great practical jokes (Eye of the Tiger in 1996, double-entendre in announcements given to various Head Boys), being served Christmas dinner by the senior teachers. Great times.

Andrew's final thoughts

I had a wonderful time at Bournemouth School, made by the CCF and the opportunities it offered.
