Ron's biography:
Mr Keen is remembered for his remarkable skill, his conscientiousness, his willingness, and in particular his very cheerful character. Before coming to the School in 1973, he served in Sunderland flying boats with Coastal Command as a flight engineer, and on leaving the R.A.F. in 1944 he continued his profession within the then British Overseas Airways. He served on Ensign aircraft, Constellations, Britannias and finally Boeing 707’s and during this time he flew the Persian Gulf Routes, the Far East, Australia Routes, and the North and South Atlantic Routes; so one may safely say that he has travelled extensively and seen a large part of the world. I’m sure that B.O.A.C. had an equally high regard for him as we have ourselves, as they chose him to be the Flight Engineer Officer for the Royal Visit to Kano in 1959, and later in 1962 for the visit of the then Prime Minister (Sir Alec Douglas Home) to Kano and Lagos. Having retired from B.O.A.C. in 1967 he spent three enjoyable years with Olympic Airways again on Boeing 707’s. Altogether he logged 19,000 flying hours.
