SEND

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

We consider all our students to have individual needs and seek, through our pastoral system, to provide any additional appropriate support. By combining quality first teaching with, where necessary, bespoke support plans in the form of monitoring documents or SEND plans, we enable each individual to reach their full potential.

If your child joins Bournemouth School with an identified Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND), we work closely with our feeder primary schools to ensure continuity of provision is provided. Equally, if throughout their time with us a SEND is identified, support is put in place.

Our highly effective SEND provision is run by our SENDCo, Mrs Issott, and a dedicated team of teaching assistants, overseen by our Lead Teaching Assistant, Mrs Coveney. In conjunction with parents, a programme of support is created and documented as a SEND plan which is reviewed termly with the child and their parents. If a student has an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan), they will also receive an annual review. The vast majority of the SEND reviews are run by either Mrs Issott or Mrs Coveney, with the occasional support of other members of the Senior Leadership Team.

Relevant information is shared with staff through meetings, SEND plans and, where applicable, EHCP documents, to inform them how best to support each student with SEND within their learning environment.

If you have any queries regarding provision for your child, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Issott.
