Parents should telephone the school on 01202 512609 or report an absence via our website, providing the student's name, year and house group, and reason for absence.
If a medical or dental appointment is necessary during the school day, parents should advise the school in advance via an email to their son's form tutor. Parents will need to visit reception in person to collect students, who are not allowed to leave the site unaccompanied.
We have six houses: Darwin, Elgar, Moore, Newton, Scott and Turner. Students will be allocated to a house and form tutors will be introduced in June.
We ask that each student is only accompanied by one parent for the new boys' meeting in June. There will be an opportunity to speak to tutors via our online platform, SchoolCloud, in July, and also at a face to face meeting in October.
We decide the house that students will join as this offers a good opportunity to make new friends. Teaching groups may not necessarily be the same as tutor groups, allowing students to make further friends across the year group.
Lesson setting begins in Year 9 for mathematics and science only.
Please see our young carers page and free school meals page for further information.
We are not a nut-free school. Please contact the Year 7 Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Mrs Fernandez, at [email protected] to discuss allergen advice.
We use Knowledge Organisers, which will be provided to students each half term - read more on our homework page. We will explain more about homework and Knowledge Organisers at the new boys' meeting in June and at the first Year 7 information evening.
In the first term, Year 7 have homework set in science, mathematics (which includes some online work), English (30 minutes of reading a day) and either French or Spanish. Homework will be set in all subjects from the spring term onwards.
Bournemouth School has an "on site, out of sight" policy. If a student wishes to bring a phone or smart watch to school, they should ensure it remains in their locker and switched off until they have left the school site at the end of the day. If a student needs to contact home, they may do so from the Year 7 office. Urgent messages from parents for students may be passed via reception.
Those students who have peripatetic music lessons may check the programme in the music department, and should ask to leave their usual timetabled lesson at the appropriate time to attend a music lesson. Students should return to their usual timetabled lesson afterwards.
There are no specific rules, but coats should be appropriate to the weather conditions; bags should be of a suitable size and design for school books.
Students may arrive from 7.45am and must enter using their ID cards to open the green gates to the upper terrace and Le Bistro. Students may proceed to their form rooms at 8.10am.
There are various clubs and activities that run after school which students are welcome to attend. These will be publicised to students at the start of Year 7. In addition, the library and 52 are both open until 4.30pm on Mondays to Thursdays, and until 4.00pm on Fridays.
We encourage students to walk or cycle to school. Students bringing bicycles must remember their ID cards to access the bike shed; whilst we strongly recommend all students employ a suitable D-lock for their bicycle, all bicycles are left at their owners' risk.
Students need their ID cards for a number of purposes within school; whilst a day without it is manageable, if the card has been lost, a replacement should be purchased via WisePay. The new card will be produced the following school day and may be collected from reception.
Please see our school transport page for information about sustainable transport, including school buses.
