Alumnus Returns to Inspire Students with Maritime Career Path

We were thrilled to welcome Merlin back to school, this time as a guest speaker sharing his experiences of the Merchant Navy Cadetship. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to hear first-hand about this exciting and specialist career pathway.

Currently studying at Solent University’s renowned Warsash Maritime School, Merlin spoke engagingly about his training the structure of the cadetship and what life at sea entails. His insights gave students a valuable perspective on a lesser-known route, broadening their understanding of the diverse opportunities available after school.

The talk was attended by students from Years 9 and 10 in the CCF Navy section, alongside Sixth Form students with an interest in maritime careers. Merlin’s enthusiasm and honesty helped bring the pathway to life, inspiring those considering a future in this field.

It is always a pleasure to welcome Merlin back to school and we are grateful to him for giving his time to support and inform our students. We wish him every success as he embarks on his first placement at sea and look forward to seeing him again soon.
