World Book Day

Throughout the week of 4 – 8 March 2024, we will be celebrating World Book Day in a number of ways.

Firstly, every student will receive a World Book Day token, which can be exchanged for £1 off at participating book shops.

Secondly, on Wednesday, we’ll be holding the Bournemouth School Great Book Bake Off! All staff and students are invited to bake anything they wish – so long as it’s inspired by a book. (Shop-bought adaptations are also welcome!) We are very much looking forward to seeing the amazing creations that are being spoken about.

Next, staff have provided childhood photos of themselves, along with details of their favourite childhood books. All members of the school community are invited to Guess Who – match the photo to the member of staff, along with their favourite childhood book. Winners will be announced at the prize draw on Friday, 15 March.

Years 7 and 8 will be holding a million minutes house challenge between 2 and 24 March. We know that introducing children and young people to the habit of reading in everyday life can improve their communication skills, brighten their future prospects and improve their mental health. Therefore, all reading during tutor time between 2 and 24 March will count towards the total number of minutes’ reading accumulated over the weeks. Students will also be able to record bonus miutes outside of tutor time using their individual reading record sheets. Students are encouraged to log every minute of reading – whether in school or not!
