GB Open National Championships

One of our Sixth Form students, Walter, will be participating in multiple surfing competitions across the UK this summer, including the Surf Life Saving GB Open National Championships (16-39).

SLSGB (Surf Life Saving GB)ย originates from Australia with the aim to improve the speed and efficiency of emergency surf rescues. Across the country today, SLSGB promotes water awareness, trains lifeguards, educates and trains people in lifesaver skills (water rescues, first aid etc) and hosts the competitive element of running surf sport.

Walter has been participating in the sport since he was eight-years-old. Based at Branksome Chine Surf Lifesaving Club, Walter trains, coaches and competes at national level in lifesaving, surf sports skills and races.

This year, Walter will be participating in the Celtic Cup; where the regions of Cornwall, Wales, Wessex and Devon go head-to-head and he is due to compete in three events; two individual and one team event.

At the Nationals, he will be participating across all events at youth; including Swim, Board, Surfski, Oceanman, 1k run, Beach Flags, Sprints and various relays and team events including Tube Rescue and Surf Teams.

And finally, at the Open National Championships in the summer, he will be participating against GB adult teams with higher surf conditions. Events will include Ski, Board, Oceanman, and a 2k Run among relays including Board Relays and Taplin.

Bournemouth School wishes Walter success in all his upcoming competitions and looks forward to hearing the outcomes.
